On Monday, 5th December 2022 we commemorate the end of Australia’s
involvement in the Vietnam War.
Fifty years on, Australians and the Vietnamese enjoy a healthy and productive
relationship which also reflects the respect shown for each other during the
Vietnam War. May our new partnerships, friendships, and peace last forever.
Our Government, DVA and Veteran Organizations supported the 5th December
2022 is the most appropriate date to publicly launch the commemorative
program associated with the Vietnam War. On the 5th of December 1972,
Australia’s newly elected Government ordered the recall of the last Australian
service personnel still in Vietnam. However, Australian Forces would have
served in the Vietnam War beyond this date with the Australian Army Training
