Veteran’s Mental Health

It’s no different for the veteran and defence force communities.

Deployment, coming home from a war or peacekeeping zone or returning to civilian life may have an effect on mental health and wellbeing. Some have not experienced mental health problems, others have sought help and recovered. But there are some who continue to experience difficulties. These problems can be identified early, managed and treated.

Australia’s summer festive season can be a great time to catch up with family and friends. But be careful not to get carried away with the excesses of the season. Keep an eye on mates or family members who might be doing it tough. If you find yourself or a friend struggling, you can always call the VVCS – Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service on 1800 011 046. It’s free and confidential.
