Applications to apply for a payment under the Defence Reparation Scheme have been extended to 30 June 2022.

The Defence Reparation Scheme began in 2017 and is open to current and former members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) who experienced abuse by another ADF member on or before 30 June 2014. It is administered by the Commonwealth Ombudsman, in its role as the Defence Force Ombudsman.

In recognition of the Scheme’s positive impact, the Department of Defence has extended the Scheme.

Defence has noted the decision reflects the importance it places on ensuring as many individuals as possible who have experienced serious abuse are provided with an opportunity to apply for a reparation payment.
